This oil painting shows the 'Skeleton' pier at Hartlepool. Now the structure is long gone, being replaced by a stone pier. The image dates from around 1976, though the painting was produced in the last few years. The unusual and dramatic sky is a tribute to my art teacher back in the late 70's, Stephen Crowther. His inspiration for art taught me to express myself within a discipline. His instruction for the original version of this painting included my painting the sun with layer upon layer of paint and then using fine sandpaper, rub it down until it shone like a sixpence.
